IF THIS THEN THEORY

Presentation Team

Greg Hansen

Greg has a strong interest in activity theory and distributed cognition. He's currently looking at how distributed cognition can help aid content creation through knowledge mapping. Greg's favorite IFTTT recipe triggers an air purifier to turn on (via a Belkin WeMo smart outlet) when the pollen count is too high.

Brad Jacobson

Brad truly enjoys distributed cognition and theories stemming from social psychology (most likely due to his undergraduate studies in psych!).  Brad's favorite IFTTT recipe is tweeting out to all his followers when his yahoo fantasy league standings are updated.  He has found this recipe really streamlines the process of initiating some "friendly banter" between league members!

Trevor Johnson

Trevor's favorite theory is embodied interaction. Trevor is very interested in new ways of interacting with technology and wants to explore using physical things as interfaces.

Kristi Nguyen

Kristi doesn’t have a single favorite theory, but if she were to choose, it would likely be phenomenology because of how fun that word is to say.  She’s interested in improving experiences between users and technology, and thus ethnomethodology fits nicely beside her goal to understand users better. Kristi’s favorite IFTTT recipe triggers a text message each morning telling her the weather, which is especially useful if it's raining. She hates wet hair.
